The Yahoo Outlook Connection - Getting Your Yahoo Contacts Into Outlook

The second step is to make sure that Outlook has a copy of all your Yahoo Contacts. Getting your Yahoo Contacts into Outlook is what we're going to talk about here.

NOTE: If you are working with Outlook 2010, you should go to this Yahoo Outlook Contacts page instead.

Please be aware that what we're going to do is make a copy of your Yahoo Mail contacts and transfer that copy into Outlook. There won't be any kind of live connection between the two. If after you complete this, you add new contacts into Yahoo, those contacts won't appear in Outlook, unless you do this process again.

The Steps

It's easy to get a copy of your Yahoo Mail contacts into Outlook. There are a lot of steps but nothing too complicated. Just follow these steps:

1. Log into your Yahoo Mail account and click the Contacts tab to see your Yahoo Contacts.


2. Set the checkmark next to the contacts you want to copy to Outlook. Don't worry about whether or not a contact is already included in Outlook. Later on in these instructions we'll direct Outlook to ignore duplicate contacts.


3. Click the Tools button, then Export. You should now see an "Export: page.





4. Click the Export Now button next to the words, "Microsoft Outlook."


5. You should now see a dialog box on the screen that says you are "Opening yahoo_ab.csv" or something similar. The exact details of the box will depend on your web browser, but the important thing is to record the file name (in this case yahoo_ab.csv).


6. Next, you want to tell your web browser to save this file. Keep track of where it is saved if your browser displays that information. If not, have Windows search your computer for the file name you recorded in the previous step. Record the location where the file was saved.


7. In Outlook, click File. This opens a menu. Click the Import and Export option to start the Import and Export Wizard.


8. Select Import from another program or file, then click Next.


9. Select Comma Separated Values (Windows) and click Next.


10. Click the Browse button, and navigate to the location you recorded earlier. You should see the filename you recorded earlier, probably without the ".csv" part.


11. Select the file name and click OK. This displays the Import a File screen.


12. Select the Do not import duplicate items option, and click Next.


13. The next screen that appears show you all the folders in Outlook. Navigate through this until you see the Contacts folder. Select the Contacts folder to tell Outlook to import all the contacts into this folder, and click Next.


14. In the screen that appears, Outlook tells you exactly what it will be doing, which is importing contacts from the file into your Contacts folder. Click Finish and allow Outlook to do its work.
