Outlook Web Mail Account Access Simplifies Life

This part of the site covers Outlook web mail account access. It shows you how to use Outlook to send and receive messages through web mail accounts.

What are web mail accounts? They're Gmail, and Yahoo! Mail, and Hotmail, and AOL mail, and other email accounts that you can connect to through your web browser.

With a little work, you can set up Outlook to work with those accounts, in addition to continuing to use them as you do today. Why bother? I think you will really like the convenience of having access to all your mail messages in one place. You will also like being able to use Outlook's familiar interface for everything, rather than the mish-mash of different tool you face when you deal with each account separately.

Or maybe now that you have Outlook, you want to create a personal mail account you can use with it.

Note: Travelers with laptops often find their normal SMTP server doesn't work when they are away from home, meaning they cannot send emails. If you're looking at Gmail as a way around this problem, there is an alternative.

SMTP2Go provides an SMTP server that was specifically designed to work from any location in the world. It comes highly recommended as it eliminates the "can't send email problem" and it really does work! Click here to visit the site.

In either case, you've come to the right place. Here you'll learn how to connect your accounts (whether existing or new) to Outlook. In some cases (like Google's Gmail) this will be free. In others you will need to pay a small monthly or yearly fee for the privilege of reading your mail in Outlook instead of through your web browser.

Competition for you as an electronic mail user is fierce. Even though many services charge for access, the rules and pricing for these services are ever-changing.

The information posted here is the best I have as of the date I posted it, but will change. I will keep it updated as best I can, but if you find that the information I've posted for a service is no longer valid, please send me a message describing the situation as best you can, and I'll update this site as soon as I can.

NOTE: For the more technically-inclined, the types of mail accounts you can connect to Outlook use the following protocols: POP3 HTTP and IMAP

I've compiled a pile of information about Outlook web mail for the services listed here:

Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus scans and cleans infected email attachments (POP3 and SMTP formats) automatically.

Hosted Exchange Mailboxes and Outlook

While it doesn't really fit into the category of Microsoft Outlook web mail accounts, you may also be interested in a hosted Exchange mailbox that Outlook can connect to across the Internet. This gives you the "access from anywhere" kind of benefits that web mail accounts provide, along with many of the benefits of Microsoft Exchange.

If you are interested in this, you can get general information on hosted Exchange here and instructions for configuring Outlook to work with a hosted Exchange mailbox here

That should be enough Microsoft Outlook web mail options to keep you busy for a while.
