AutoComplete Tips

The idea behind AutoComplete is that it will automatically complete certain fields for you. That's straightforward enough. But sometimes it appears that AutoComplete isn't working properly. Here's what's going on.

The First AutoCompletion (Outlook 2007)

When addressing an email message, AutoComplete can help you enter the email addresses by completing the typing of the address for you, or by using the "Display As" name in place of the email address.

However, the first time you use a new email address or "Display As" name, AutoComplete may not do anything.

The solution to this is simple. Type the email address of the "Display As" name as you would normally. But don't press the "Enter" key or add the next address. Instead, with the cursor at the end of the entry, click "Check Names" in the ribbon. This forces Outlook to go through its AutoComplete process for whatever you entered. Select the address or name you want Outlook to associate with what you've typed and you are all set.

You will only need to do this the first time around for any item. After that, AutoComplete will do its thing properly.
