About .pst Files

Here is some background information about .pst files.

When you are not storing your Outlook data on an Exchange server, it is stored in one or more .pst files (also known as PST files and personal folder files) that reside on your hard drive.

Outlook can work with multiple .pst files. You control which items get stored in which .pst file. You can also manually move items between .pst files simply by dragging it from a folder in one .pst file to a folder in another.

One common use of an additional .pst file is to serve as an archive of old Outlook items. This reduces clutter in your main Outlook folders, and can help Outlook to work more efficiently by minimizing the size of each PST file.

In case you're wondering: the reason they are called .pst files is because each personal folder file name ends with the .pst file extension.
